Personal Guitar Instruction in Cambridge from a Berklee Professor

Cambridge has always attracted people who like to dig a little deeper, into ideas, craft, and creative work. I’ve spent a good part of my teaching life working with students who live or study here, and it’s a place where thoughtful, curious musicians tend to thrive.

I’m a Professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music, and alongside that work, I teach private guitar lessons for students in Cambridge who want more than random tips or surface-level instruction. Most people I work with are looking to understand the guitar more clearly, make sense of what they’re practicing, and actually hear progress in their playing.

That’s the kind of work I enjoy most.

The Guitar Students I Work With in Cambridge

Cambridge students tend to be motivated and inquisitive. Many of the players I work with here are balancing music alongside demanding academic or professional lives, and they want lessons that feel focused and purposeful.

I regularly work with:

  • University students looking to strengthen their playing

  • Adults who are serious about improving but short on time

  • Guitarists who feel overwhelmed by theory and want clarity

  • Players who’ve learned on their own and want structure

  • Musicians exploring rock, blues, jazz, or crossover styles

Teaching at Berklee has given me a lot of experience meeting students exactly where they are. That same mindset carries into my private lessons, I adapt the material to you, not the other way around.

Why Cambridge Students Choose to Work With Me

There are plenty of good guitar teachers in the area. Many students choose to work with me because of the balance I bring between structure and flexibility.

At Berklee, I teach students who are expected to understand music deeply and apply it fluently. In my private studio, I bring that same clarity, without turning lessons into lectures. My goal isn’t to impress you with information; it’s to help you use it.

What Lessons Feel Like

Lessons are typically weekly or biweekly and designed to support steady, realistic improvement. You won’t be guessing what to practice or why it matters.

You can expect:

  • Clear explanations in plain language

  • Honest, constructive feedback

  • A sense of direction between lessons

  • Progress that builds naturally over time

I’d rather you fully understand a few important ideas than rush through dozens of disconnected concepts.
